Students: Career Planning: Internships
Internships allow students to spend a summer or semester working within their fields of interest. Students in the process of deciding upon a major may choose to perform an internship for career exploration—taking a "career test drive" of the work environment, responsibilities, and skills necessary for a career within that field. Students who have selected a major may perform a more focused, higher functioning internship in which they put their education into practice. In both cases, employers benefit from an intern's energy, creativity, and education; students benefit from the opportunity to explore different careers, gain valuable work experience, and develop their professional network. Internships may be full or part time, paid or unpaid, for credit or noncredit, and may be in any field of work, in any city, state, or country.
Students interested in performing an internship for academic credit should contact the internship coordinator within their academic school or department to discuss opportunities and requirements for earning credit.
